The Surat event was held on November 21 and was sponsored by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, according to the GJEPC's website. Goyal addressed the Surat diamond industry, stating that the government is working hard to develop the lab grown diamond industry in Surat, both in terms of growing lab grown diamonds and manufacturing them. Goyal asked Surat-based diamond industry leaders to create a vision document for the lab-grown diamond industry. The Minister informed stakeholders that he would share the report with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss ways to help the sector even more.
"I am in constant contact with GJEPC and hold a meeting every fortnight to understand the industry's situation," Goyal said, according to GJEPC. At the Surat event, Goyal emphasised the GJEPC's responsibility in relaying difficulties in the gem and jewellery sector to the Ministry of Commerce. Darshana Jardosh, Minister of State for Railways and Textiles, GJEPC vice president Kirit Bhansali, and GJEPC regional chairman for Gujarat Vijaybhai Mangukiya also attended the event.
