Aether diamonds are the world's first carbon-negative, positive-impact diamonds. Shahla Karimi has teamed up with the company to create a range of sustainable jewellery. The jewellery is inspired by the cast-iron construction elements of SoHo architecture. The collection includes engagement rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings.

As sustainable production practises become the norm, many brands are looking for new and innovative ways to lessen the environmental impact of making new products. For some, this has opened the door to new collaborations and the sharing of resources and aesthetics, resulting in work that is both mindfully planned and environmentally sustainable.

Shahla Karimi, a New York-based jewellery brand, is a case in point, having announced a collaboration with Aether diamonds, which are claimed as the world’s first carbon-negative, positive-impact diamonds. ‘We are continuously eager to collaborate with new diamond companies who prioritise carbon offsetting or neutrality,’ said the brand. ‘Aether is carbon-negative, which means it reduces the amount of carbon emissions discharged into the atmosphere. Because our ideals were so similar to theirs, we leaped at the chance to work with them when they contacted us.’

Aether X Shahla Diamonds Engagement Rings

Aether produces diamonds from air by extracting carbon from the atmosphere and transforming it into a raw material that is then fed into reactors powered by clean energy. Diamond crystals form gradually over a few weeks.

The jewellery that follows, which includes trendy alternative engagement rings, features powerful architectural forms, unusual diamond placements, and strong silhouettes, resulting in modern designs.

‘With Aether, we wanted to create a gender fluid line that included engagement rings. It is usually difficult to strike a balance between masculine and feminine elements while working across genders. ‘Our move to SoHo was a significant source of inspiration for the pieces in our most recent three collections,’ says the brand of its quirky design ethos. ‘Aether transforms air into diamonds; our capsule takes that concept a step further by encasing them in materially substantial parts. The simple design approach, accented by structural accents such as diamonds set in rivets, pays homage to the cast-iron building elements seen in SoHo architecture.’

FAQs

Aether Diamonds are created from atmospheric carbon by employing carbon sequestration technology to extract CO2 directly from the atmosphere and convert it into diamonds (unlike other lab-grown diamonds which utilise fossil fuels). This has a good impact on the environment, making the globe brighter than before.
